LUCY
I adopted Lucy from your shelter in June 2008. Within the first hour of bringing her home, she curled up in my lap and stole my heart. She loved her stuffed mice, and chasing balls, and she loved to sit on the back of the couch supervising my every move. But most of all? She loved standing up and trying to open the door. She made me laugh every single day.

My sweet girl was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy at the end of February. After a few weeks of treatment, my fur-baby went into heart failure again and I had to put her to sleep on March 28, 2010. She was 5 years old. She was only in my life for a year and a half, but she changed me forever. Thank you for taking such good care of her while she was with you.

HERSHEY
It's with a heavy heart I write this email about my cat Hershey. I can still see her story on the success pages of this website, but today she had to be put down after falling victim to what was believed to be cancer. She was being treated for 2 weeks and seemed to be getting better, but took a turn for the worse this weekend. It was truly her time. She was an amazing cat that we adopted from QAS on June 1, 2006. Although her time with us was short, I'm glad that I gave her her own forever home. We love her so much and are so grateful for the work that you do at QAS for making stories like this possible. We love you Hershey.

In Memory of DELIA - March 2010

Hello, On 7/7/07 I adopted a beautiful 2 year-old Maine Coon cat named Delia from QAS. It took no time at all for her to capture my heart. I know she spent 9 months at the Shelter and I feel it's because she was waiting for me to find her. Not a day sine then went by that she didn't make me smile. Although she was aloof at first she quickly became very affectionate. She would start to jump in my lap before I was fully seated and slept on top of me every night. And she purred like crazy.

It was with deep sadness that I had her put her to sleep last week. She went into kidney failure with no warning and declined fairly quickly over a 2 week period. I didn't want her to suffer so I took her back to the Vet before she started getting really bad. She had stopped eating and was no longer drinking water.

I am writing to let you know since she was with you for so long and to thank you for taking such good care of her while she was there. I have attached some photos so you can see that she was loved very much in her new home. The 3rd photo was one of her favorite poses on my lap - on her back shading her eyes with her paw and her belly in the air.

Her death has left a big hole in my home and in my heart.

In Memory of Lily - July 2004 - October 2009
My Lily was taken from me on October 1st, 2009. Now I know how people feel about this as do I but she was being delclawed after 5yrs of her life. Although there were serious doubts and it was one of the most difficult decisions that I have ever had to make in my life but she was having trouble and this was thought to be the best thing for her. Although she seemed healthy in every way and there was no cause for alarm unfortunately she did not make it through recovery, she stopped breathing and could not be revived. They found from the xrays that she had an enlarged heart, this was not something I'm told they could not detect without xrays but there was never a cause during any of her checkups that warranted them , all her test results were great. Her big sister Pandy & I adopted her from a shelter home when she was 7 weeks old. She brought so much joy to my/our life although Pandy may have a different take on it. We were suppose to grow old together and we still will there will never be a day that you are not in my heart. I / we will miss you so much. Rest in Peace My Baby Girl... Love, Mommy & Pandy. My wonderful boy CHILLIE passed away last week. I adopted him from QAS several years ago while Volunteering there. I miss him very much. Please know he had many adventures over the years, including two cross-country trips and a visit to the Grand Canyon! With Love, Jordan

SNUFFY SMITH
Snuffy Smith - Died peacefully April 6th, 2009 - Snuffy came to our home in February of 2008 at 13 years of age. We found him on the Shelter's website seeking an adoptive home and "not looking for a long time, but rather a good time." Since we already had adopted Fantasia and she was a success story of her own, we decided to take the old man in. In his short 14 months with us, he scouted the dog park, went on long walks most every day, cooled off in the pool a few times, sat with Santa for pictures, and dressed as a candy corn greeting all the kids on Halloween. His favorite part of the day was bedtime when every one of us was devoured with kisses (which took him a while to learn with teeth removed and tongue hanging to the side). He was very proud of that skill. Aside from all this, The "little black dog" who came to us taught us a lesson in life, that is never too late to enjoy new people and to refuse to let age get you down. Snuffy was a joy to us and we thank everyone at the Shelter for their hard work in placing these worthwhile animals in loving homes. A special thanks to Sandra who never gave up on this 8 pound giant with tons of love to give to a new family his last year of life. The Smith Family, Weymouth, Ma.

Duncan MacLeod - circa 1991 - June 8th, 2009
Duncan MacLeod - Age 15

Duncan MacLeod came to me as a young cat of about three years old soon after I had lost my cat McDuff to the effect of thyroid cancer. I thought that no animal could compare to McDuff - Yet, Duncan became my best friend and companion who loved you with his magical eyes and gentle ways. He was strong willed and determined and learned new ways to please and love you.

Duncan was an athlete and for several years would amaze you as he leaped off the balcony to land on the couch below. One day, I came home and he was dragging his left hind foot, but not complaining at all, looking up as to say, "David, I missed, can you help me ?" We went to his vet who performed a miracle and fixed a football injury and within a couple years you'd never know that Duncan had been injured at all. Duncan seemed ageless, hence his name "Mister Duncan", the Scottish Highlander.

He had a unique way of eating his food. He ate his food by scooping it out of his dish with his paw and licking it off his paw. From time to time, he'd revert back to an ordinary cat and chow down, but not that often. A friend once was eating a tuna sandwich and turned her back. Duncan looked at her and knew the second half must be his. So, he gently removed the top half of the sandwich and began to lift off the tuna and feed himself with his paw. That was our Duncan, gifted and special in so many ways.

Duncan was such a social being, he loved other animals, cat for sure, and even dogs. He loved his David oh so much, but Duncan had a way with the female of all species, wrapping them around his claws, My fiancee Nicole never had a chance to meet Duncan in person, but even she was won over by Mister Duncan and became his "Mommy".

Duncan began life as a wild cat, but within a few years did not miss his freedom outside since he had a large home of 4,000 square feet and two levels to explore and call his own. A few times he did make an escape, but he was back within a few hours, safe in his magickal kingdom. Except for his flying accident as a young guy, Duncan lived a healthy and long life. But, even Duncan could not put off Father Time forever. So at the beginning of June, he closed his eyes and is now with those that loved him as our angel Duncan. Mister Boo, you were such a wonderful friend, so full of spirit and love. Thanks for sharing you wisdom and helping me know what really matters. I will love you and miss you forever.

On April 17th, 2009, Mr. Tumnus (known to QAS as "Derry") passed away unexpectedly from heart failure at the young age of three and a half years. From the moment he picked me by sitting on my lap in the Shelter, he was his Momma's special little boy. He was and will always be remembered as the most loving, sweetest cat anyone could have asked for. I am absolutely heartbroken at how short of a time we were able to be together, but I am grateful to have been able to share his life. His spot in the bed remains empty but my heart is full of so many wonderful memories. Rest in peace Mr. Tums. Momma loves and misses you very much, and I look forward to the day we will meet again on the Rainbow Bridge in the sky... Hillary & Patrick

To the Shelter Staff for the memory of Samantha - On October 14th, 2008 - My Cat Samantha known to your staff members as (Smokey). She died on October 14th, 2008. The (3) years that I had her she brought me so much joy and love, she was a very special girl. I loved her so much and miss her. Samantha died here at home from cancer. We gave each other so many hugs and kisses. I just don't know what to do without her. I can't tell you how much she meant to me. She was so much more than just a cat, but my baby girl. I never cried so hard when she passed away. Till this day it is very hard for me. I will never forget her. She will always be in my heart. Jackie - September 7th, 2008
We adopted Jackie on Memorial Day weekend in 2002 from the Quincy Animal Shelter. He caught my eye with his double paws crossed one over the other, and I had to take him home. Jackie loved going outside, playing with his sister Squeak, and sitting between my husband and I looking for food. While I was pregnant with my triplets, Jackie would sit next to me on the couch or snuggle while I took a nap. A few weeks ago we noticed a weight loss and he seemed very isolated. My husband took him to the vet on September 7th, 2008 where he passed away from heart failure. He will always be in our hearts and we will never forget him.

In loving memory of Mr. Mittens who was adopted as First Lady (turns out she was a he). Adopted late in life we had four wonderful years together. He passed away on June 14, 2008. Constantly fighting a thyroid condition, he lived life large and showered love on anyone he met. Since he passed on, there is a hole in my heart and in our home. This is my little fella, PETER, who I adopted from QAS as JUSTIN. He came down with a urinary blockage, and he was in a lot of pain. I just lost him in May, and the house feels empty without him. He had a great 2 years with me, and I am sad that he is gone. Here he is where he loved to sleep and was his happiest, the bathroom sink.

KLONDIKE
Klondike was my little man, a rescue boy who never ceased to amaze me how strong and loving he was. I think Klondike realized I saved him from a life of cruelty and paid me back daily with pure love and affection. However, I am the one who has an undying gratitude as I think he rescued me (lol). When Klondike required open heart surgery, Angell Memorial called me to say he was up and about that he was the first Boston Terrier ever to howl like a wolf for his mommy. I had to go get him the following day (normally a 4-5 day stay) because he was sooo homesick. When my boy came down with cancer he never whimpered or cried, complained or slowed down. He never left my side until he had to cross the Bridge. Klondike's brothers, Champ and Red are also Boston Terrier rescues and we will always remember what a sweet and special boy he was.

BUBBALOO - July 26th, 2007
In October of 2006 we adopted Bubba from the QAS. Bubba was an older cat and he was at the Shelter because his previous owner had passed away. As soon as we opened the cage he climbed right up onto Kristen's lap then onto her chest and he placed his paws over her shoulder and he started purring the loudest purr either of us had ever heard. We were "sold"! Shortly after bringing him home the odd little wart on his head went away and he got along quite well with our other cat Zoe. Unfortunately in May of 2007 we noticed that is stomach was getting bigger and bigger. We brought him to the VCA in Weymouth and found out he had cancer that basically had no treatment options. We spoiled him like crazy for the last two months of his life and as sick as he was he never lost his desire to purr... Although he was only with us for a very short time, he seemed quite happy and we loved having him in our home.

We just wanted to let you know that we had to put Lucky down last week.

We adopted her form the Quincy Animal Shelter almost 2 1/2 years ago. She had been at the Shelter for almost 9 months, and no one wanted her because of her medical condition and her age. My wife Maegan and I adopted her and we couldn't have been happier having her as part of our family for the last few years. She was a wonderful dog and she will be greatly missed.

TRINITY - Sept. 7th, 2006
We would like to inform you of Trinity's passing. We adopted Trinity from your shelter in October of 2002 when she was just 3 months old. Trinity moved all the way across the country to Draper, Utah in 2004. She passed away on September 7th, 2006 from non-regenerative anemia brought on by Hemobartonella. Trinity was the brightest light in our lives. She was our "Wubby" and we will miss and love her forever. She will be laid to rest at 'Angels Rest' at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. We wanted to let everyone at the Shelter know and wanted to thank you for all the work you do there, and for bringing Trinity into our lives even for such a short period of time. MARIO - 7/12/02 - 12/16/05
In Memory of Mario "Kitty Boy" Luigi Sullivan, survived by his parents and two siblings, who succumbed to an autoimmune disease, immune- mediated thrombocytopenia. Though he fought his best against this disease that onsets suddenly, the outcome is almost always the same, and Mario's vivacious six pound body was just no match. Although loved by all in my family, Mario was the #1 man in my life. There was no one he would not defy to get to me, no risk he would not take to be in my arms; the little guy thought I gave birth to him, and he was more than "just a dog" to me; he loved me unconditionally, and he knew I felt the same for him. He was a character so full of energy that it was a rare occasion when anyone saw him sleeping or sitting still for more than a minute, and ready to play anytime (sometimes at three in the morning). While no words or actions can ever take away the void in my heart he leaves behind, Mario had such a zest for life that he would want to make sure that no one else that loves a dog the way I loved him should be denied a dog for lack of ability to pay, or should have to watch their dog suffer and die needlessly if there be a cure. Please accept this donation in memory of my Mario and use it in the way most needed at the Shelter. - Christine M. Sullivan

Keesha passed away on October 27, 2005 after 14 years of living with his beloved family. He was an unbelieveable dog. He never gave up even when he was having trouble with his elderly problems!
